The STAR Standards
The STAR Standards allow different automotive entities to be able to easily exchange and utilize data critical to running all areas of business. We cover everything from part codes to customer service.
STAR has been the industry standard since its inception. Join us in shaping how the automotive industry does data.
The STAR Standards are generated by our members collaborating with each other and our employees within several Work Groups (WG) that address specific points of interest to the automotive retail IT industry. Most of the WGs are chartered with developing or maintaining the existing data formats (XML Business Object Documents or "BODs"). We also have the Architecture WG is chartered with finding common Infrastructure and interoperability among STAR members and the Dealer Infrastructure Guidelines (DIG) group which works to provide a guidebook and deployment handbook for IT infrastructure at the dealership.
The term BOD refers to "Business Object Document" which is written using xml schemas. Our members submit items they would like a BOD created for or submit requests for modifications of existing BODs so the STAR Standards can be better tailored to suit their needs.
The goal of our Architecture specifications is to provide a clear framework and patterns around integration of business processes. These specifications were created to address certain areas of Web Architecture that include Transport as well as other issues.
The DIG specifications are a guidebook and deployment handbook for IT infrastructure at the dealership.
DTS is the now retired set of flat file business process data transfer specifications previously created by STAR. The DTS has been retired and will no longer be modified but can still be accessed for those who wish to use it.
STAR releases a new version of the STAR Standards on a yearly basis. New content and changes are decided on by representatives of STAR's current member organizations.
